The Directorate of Secondary Education in Assam has recently released the official notification for the Centrally Sponsored “National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS)” Scheme for the financial year 2023-2024. This prestigious scholarship is awarded to gifted and meritorious students studying in class IX, X, XI, and XII in government, government-aided, and local body schools. The scholarship is specifically aimed at students whose parental income does not exceed Rs. 3,50,000/- per annum. Value of NMMS Scholarship Assam

The scholarship amount will be Rs. 12,000/- per annum, which is equivalent to Rs. 1000 per month.

Eligibility Criteria for NMMS Scholarship

To be eligible for the NMMS Scholarship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Class: Only students studying in Class VIII in government, local body, and government-aided schools are eligible.
Marks: A minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade in the Class VII examination is required to appear for the NMMS examination (5% less for SC/ST students). Additionally, awardees must achieve a minimum of 55% marks in Class IX and XI, and 60% in Class X for the continuation of the scholarship (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST candidates) in higher classes.

Family Income: The scholarship is available for gifted or meritorious students whose parental income does not exceed Rs. 3,50,000/- per annum.
Type of School: Students should be regular students studying in Class IX, X, XI, and XII in government, government-aided, and local body schools for up to a maximum of four years.

Ineligible Applicants for NMMS Scholarship

The following students are not eligible to apply for the NMMS Scholarship:
Students studying in private schools.
Students studying in “Kendriya Vidyalaya” and “Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas”.
Students studying in residential schools provided by the State Government and private schools.

How to Apply for NMMS Assam Scholarship?

To apply for the NMMS Assam Scholarship, candidates should follow these steps:
Visit the official NMMS Assam Scholarship Portal.
Scroll down and find the “Online Application Form” in the Important Web-Links section.
Click on “Register Now” to complete the registration process.
Provide personal and educational details and upload the necessary documents.
Pay the application fee based on the category.
Submit the form.

Documents to be Submitted with the Online Application Form

Candidates must upload the following documents with the online application form:
Scanned copy of candidate’s photograph.

Scanned copy of candidate’s signature.
Scanned copy of candidate’s caste certificate (applicable for OBC, SC, and ST candidates).
Scanned copy of candidate’s disability certificate (applicable for disabled candidates).
Scanned copy of declaration form.

Selection Process for NMMS Scholarship

A written examination comprising Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) will be conducted on 18th November 2023 to select candidates for the NMMS Scholarship Scheme.
The question paper will be available in both Assamese and English mediums, while the OMR sheet will be in English medium.

Previous five years’ question papers can be accessed through the ‘Bidyarthi’ app on Google Play Store.
Extra time will be provided to children with disabilities, as applicable.
The examination consists of two papers: Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).

Question Paper

Mental Ability Test (MAT): 90 Marks, Timing: 10.00 AM to 11.30 AM
Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT): 90 Marks, Timing: 01.00 PM to 02.30 PM
To secure the scholarship, students must satisfy the following conditions:

Clear both the MAT and SAT tests with a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate (32% for SC/ST students).
Score at least 55% or equivalent grade in the Class VIII examination (50% for SC/ST students).
